Undoubtedly one of the most dazzling personalities in the American big band business of the ‘30s and ‘40s - Artie Shaw, clarinetist, bandleader, writer and as a sideline: womanizer. He was married a total of eight times; two of his wives were Hollywood divas – Lana Turner and Ava Gardner. His status as musician is, however, uncontested. Together with Dan Levinson, Andrej Hermlin and his orchestra bring back the successful hits of the Artie Shaw Band such as “Begin the Beguine“, “Lady Be Good“ or “Night and Day“ to the concert stage in spectacular original arrangements. The SWING DANCE ORCHESTRA is expanded to include a string ensemble for part of the program. Vocal soloist is Iris Romen.
